The Agency

The Insurance Supervision Agency was established on 1 June 2000, which is when the Government of the Republic of Slovenia first appointed its Council of Experts and director pursuant to the Insurance Act. In terms of the functions it performs, the Agency succeeded the Office for Insurance Supervision (established in 1995) as a separate entity under the auspices of the Ministry of Finance.

The main objective of the Agency’s supervisory tasks is to protect policyholders, insured persons and other insurance contract beneficiaries. The Agency pursues this goal by supervising insurance companies and other supervised entities, thereby ensuring that they operate lawfully and in accordance with the rules in place on risk management.

The supervisory activities conducted by the Insurance Supervision Agency are long-term in nature and based on the actual risks to which insurance companies are exposed.
